Closing Session of the Summer School on Rebuilding Syria from Within André Castanho, School of Architecture, University of Minho

 

The "Summer School on Rebuilding Syria from Within" co-organised by the Global Platform for Syrian Students, the University of MinhoSchool of Architecture (Portugal), and the Università Iuav di Venezia (Italy)with the support of ESCWA - NAF, ended on 28 July in Guimarães (Portugal). 

During the Closing Session, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Dr. Augusto Santos Silva, and the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Ms. Fernanda Rollo, together with Dr. Rui Viera de Castro, Rector of the University of Minho and Dr. Jorge Sampaio, Chairman of the Global Platform for Syrian Students, visited the exhibition of outputs from studios-works held during the summer school. 

Following the guided tour a short film on the Summer School was presented followed by quick comments shared by Professor Cidália Silva (School of Architecture of the University of Minho), Jacopo Galli (IUAV) and some students. 

A panel discussion on – Looking beyond – with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education; Sultan Barakat, Director-Founder of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (Doha) and Professor at the York University UK; and Kholoud Khaltoum, Engineer at EDP and alumni Global Plataform for Syrian Students, was held before the closing addresses of the Chairman of the Global Platform and the Rector of the University of Minho.

Fees

This Summer School is not held as a for profit activity. Therefore “Tuition Costs” are free as most speakers, tutors and mentors are participating on a voluntary basis. However regular participants will be requested to cover the costs of their accommodation, meals, materials, social programme and field visits. Two fee packages are available for this Summer School depending on the accommodation option:

Package A – It includes meals, materials, social programme and field visits as well as accommodation at the University residence on the basis of a shared room: Total – 195 euros.

Package B – It includes meals, materials, social programme and field visits only. Participants who will choose this package will not require accommodation from the organizers preferring to make their own bookings: Total - 135 euros.
